Silent Cry: The plea of Ogadenia




A human rights advocate has told the United States Congress that the current situation in the Ogaden region of eastern Ethiopia has striking similarities to Darfur.





- Saman Zia Zarifi, the Washington advocate for Human Rights Watch, addressed the House of Representative Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health and stated " the situation in Ogaden follows a frighteningly familiar pattern - a brutal counterinsurgency operation with ethnic overtones in which government forces deliberately attack civilians and displace large populations, coupled with severe restrictions on humanitarian assistance."

Israeli ground troops invade Gaza to halt rockets


Thousands of Israeli troops backed by columns of tanks and helicopter gunships launched a ground offensive in Gaza Saturday night with officials saying they expected a lengthy fight in the densely populated territory after eight days of punishing airstrikes failed to halt militant rocket attacks on Israel.

I hope the two sides come to an agreement and halt the fighting that is killing many innocent people.
